Members and volunteer organisers from the Bendigo Stroke Support Centre

In August, COSHG travelled to the picturesque city of Bendigo to run a workshop for the Bendigo Stroke Support Centre.

Run entirely by volunteers, the centre is a local hub for stroke survivors, their families and carers. As well as running weekly social and wellbeing activities, the centre provides peer support, education, support in accessing services, and a place to come together to reduce social isolation after stroke.

The workshop offered an opportunity to discuss both the highlights and challenges the centre and its members face. We also explored opportunities and ideas for future fundraising to help them continue their vital work. Afterwards, we shared an enjoyable social lunch in the centre’s lounge area.

We thank all the workshop attendees for generously sharing their stories and helping us to better understand the complexities of stroke and its diverse impacts. We were very impressed by their many years of dedicated work supporting stroke survivors in the area, and keeping people connected to the community.
